Knowledge answers: what to check after a citation appears
An implementation study of document scope, versions, missing evidence and source checks in LIMS knowledge answers, based on limited demonstration records.
An implementation study based on existing project materials. No new tests were run; production, demonstration and proposal stages follow the linked project records.
Starting from LIMS document answers
The LIMS project supports knowledge-base retrieval and explicitly selected files. Project documents contain 12 Q&A records dated 27 August 2026. These provide implementation evidence for studying traceability to applicable documents, rather than an overall accuracy benchmark.
Establish what content was actually available
Retrieved file cards and the text passed to a model are different layers of information. Even selected files remain subject to text limits; unreadable or truncated content needs a notice. Evaluate the material returned in this request, rather than relying on a file’s presence in the knowledge base.
Document retrieval and reading use the current user’s file permissions. Whether a version is applicable still depends on the laboratory’s actual document-management requirements.
Understand what source checks establish
The implementation compares identified standard numbers in the answer with the returned material and adds warnings for unsupported references. It also adds instructions to acknowledge insufficient material when retrieval finds nothing.
This checks document identifiers and source clues. It does not establish that every statement is accurate or that cited text was correctly interpreted. Programmatic checks still require professional human review.
Include questions without an answer
A validation set should cover clear answers, incomplete material, inapplicable versions and questions requiring professional judgment. Record answer content, citation existence, support for the conclusion and handling of missing evidence separately.
Correct answers to supported questions alone do not establish usability. Handling absent evidence also belongs in acceptance. This article includes no new model calls or rerun of the 12 demonstrations.
Basis and scope
The study uses the existing review of project documents, source code and limited Q&A records described in the project article. Larger samples and checks for applicable versions still need validation under actual operating conditions.
